Green Season 2025/2026

Our little mountain offers some of the best bushwalking near Melbourne, with an extensive number of well marked, well-maintained hiking trails that make exploring Victoria’s alpine landscape easy. These trails are full of spectacular views and include plenty of places for a relaxing picnic.

Planning on visiting Lake Mountain during our green season – here’s some of our favourite walking trails at Lake Mountain:

  • Leadbeaters Walk: An easy 600m return walk you’ll get to see Alpine Ash tree regrowth from the 1939 and 2009 fires. Interpretive signs along the walk highlight impacts fires have had on the Lake Mountain plateau and also relics from the post 1939 fire timber logging past.
  • Lake Mountain Summit Walk: Easy 40 minutes return, steep areas. An easy walk with plenty of spectacular views on offer, the Summit Walk is a great one for young families. With sections that take you through snowgum woodland and stops along the way that look out north to the Alps and south to Marysville and Melbourne.
  • Bjarne K Dahl Memorial Boardwalk: 250m one way. A wheelchair-accessible boardwalk at Snowy Hill car park, where the first skiers on Lake Mountain tried their skills in the 1920s. Signage along this interpretative walk outlines the characteristics of Snow Gums and Alpine Ash, the two eucalypts that dominate this plateau, as well as the skiing history of the area and the impacts of fire on these forests.

Camping At Lake Mountain

Camping in off-road areas is not permitted within Lake Mountain Alpine Resort. To camp in the adjacent National Park, please contact Parks Victoria to confirm requirements.
However we do welcome vehicle-based stays, including roof top tents and vans. These must be located in Gerraty’s carpark, conveniently positioned next to our main building . You are able to choose where you would like to park, keeping in mind the everyday use of the carpark – many prefer to position themselves against the edge closest to the bush. This area is unpowered, fires are not permitted, pets are not allowed and we do not have drinkable tap water at the resort.

There are free BBQ facilities and toilets that are open 24/7, however there are no kitchen facilities and the cafe is not open this summer. When departing, please ensure you take all rubbish with you and leave the area the way you found it.

No need to book, but please keep an eye on our website for any updates or changes, or news of any events taking place in the area that may affect your ability to access resort, particularly during high fire danger periods when access to the resort can be closed at short notice. For any further information or clarification on the day, please come to the admin office at the resort which is staffed from 8am-4pm during the weekdays.

Events

On the event calendar for October, we have the Australian Tarmac Rally’s “Great Tarmac Rally” event along Marysville-Woodspoint Rd on October 26th. This event will not take place in the resort, however; there will be periodic road closures that will affect public access to the resort on this day. More information around this event can be found here.

On October 30th, the resort will be closed to the public for the Lake Mountain portion of the Lotus Drive Experience, a part of the “Lotus Week 2025” event. More information around this event can be found here.

We are excited to have both of these prestigious events coming to the Marysville area and surrounding Victorian Alpine Resorts.

Stay tuned for more event information as we develop the program for 2026.
