How to Prepare for Your Day in the Snow!

June 30th, 2025

What to Wear!

We’ve had a great dump of snow in the past week, which has meant it’s been extra cold up here at Lake Mountain! For many of our visitors it is their first time in the snow, which often means we have a lot of people arriving, who aren’t quite prepared for the extreme cold and wind we often experience.

Fortunately, we have a great rental department, on resort, with snow jackets, pants, boots and kids’ snowsuits in a wide range of sizes, all for $27.00 each! Check out the price list here. In addition to your outer layers, you’ll want to come prepared with some good thermal base layers to keep you warm and toasty. Dress in layers that are easy to strip off as needed, and make sure to check the material make up of your clothing, as this can have a big impact on keeping you warm and dry too. Look for fabrics which are insulated, lightweight and breathable like wool, fleece and down. Avoid fabrics like cotton, which will absorb all the moisture in the air and from your body like a sponge, and any synthetic fabrics which don’t allow for air flow and moisture release- resulting in you being cold and wet all day!

Booking Your Tickets & Getting Here!

If you’re thinking of joining us for the day, make sure to check the road conditions first, before driving up. By booking your resort entry ticket online, you’ll be notified via email the morning of your selected day if chains are required for 2WDs to carry. If chains are required, you can stop in at Marysville, Narbethong or any other small towns, in the surrounding region to hire your chains prior to arriving at the resort.

For those interested in cross country skiing, you will need to hire your ski equipment in town as well, as we do not offer ski equipment for hire on resort.

You can also check our daily report on our website for all snow conditions across our snow play, toboggan runs, ski trails and walking trails, this is updated every morning between 8.30am and 9am. You can check the ski trail conditions hereĀ

We highly recommend booking a toboggan ticket online too, to avoid the long queue, and make the most of your day! Once you have your toboggan ticket attached to the outside of your clothing, you can enter any of the open toboggan runs where you will be handed a toboggan to use on the run. Lake Mountain does not allow any external toboggans on any of our ticketed toboggan runs. You can book a toboggan ticket here
