Lake Mountain Mini Series

All Systems Go for Young Skiers

It was all systems go for the launch of the 2017 Lake Mountain Mini Series (LMMS) on Sunday 9 July with lots of enthusiastic young participants of all ability levels, and a fresh cover of natural snow.

Hosted by Lake Mountain Ski Patrol, the day also featured the Junior Sprint X and the enthusiastic youngsters in both events enjoyed some free instruction before taking their place at the starting lines.

‘The LMMS particularly is a great way for kids to have a go at cross country skiing in a fun way,’ said ski patroller Ray Malins who has been running the series since its inception in 1995 and helped introduce 1000s of children to cross country skiing over that period.

‘We are lucky to have the support of Lake Mountain Snowsports School with its team of local and international instructors, helping the young skiers with their skills and getting first timers “on their feet”.’

Ray acknowledged the support of major sponsors – Wilderness Wear, EMC & ROJO – whose generosity over the years means every junior racer receives a prize.

The LMMS is guaranteed to run every year given Lake Mountain’s snow making capacity in the absence of natural cover. The resort can produce man-made snow when the temperature is above zero degrees Celsius, ensuring snow on the main toboggan runs and ski school area where the first of the 2017 mini series was held.

Funds raised through the token entry fee are donated to the volunteer ski patrol at Lake Mountain which helps keep safe the thousands of day trippers to the resort over the winter season.

Upcoming dates for the LMMS:
July 23 – LMMS 2, 1pm start. Bullfight Charge, 11am
July 30 – LMMS 3, 1 pm start. Mini Series Classic (formerly School Snowsports XC Classic), 11am
