Xmas In July 2012

Christmas in July is an annual event held in the Marysville Triangle area, at a different venue every year. An excellent event for all to enjoy mid way through the year to celebrate Christmas early. Live music, traditional Christmas dinner with Turkey, Ham, Plum Pudding and all the trimmings, local wines and great company creates the perfect event for locals and those visiting the region to enjoy.
This years event will be bigger and better than ever with the capacity to seat up to 400 people for the event. Tickets will be available to local business and community as in previous years, but this year the evening will also be promoted to visitors and accommodation packages will be available through the region. If ever there is a year to celebrate Chrstmas in July, 2012 is it.

Time: 6.30pm arrival for 7.00pm dinner – 11pm

Sprint X 2012

Lake Mountain are once again holding the Lake Mountain Cross Country Sprint X!

This year the sprint race will be held on Sunday the 24th June.

A brand new course will be designed for 2012, with promises of fun jumps, bumps and berms.
Leaving this event until later in the month, we are hoping for some great natural snow falls again for the event.
Using artificial snow we will create the ultimate cross country ski sprint circuit.
The event will takes place in the main village area at Lake Mountain, ensuring ease for competitors and maximum viewing areas for spectators.

Remember: If you are a current XC500 member you will receive FREE race entry to this event

White Season Opening

FAMILY FUN WEEKEND – 9th, 10th & 11th June 2012

Here we are again…. beginning another fun-filled snow season.

Save the Queen’s Birthday weekend for an action packed snow trip for you and the family!

This year’s event will run over the entire weekend so that nobody misses out on the fun!

The weekend will include, family toboggan races, live music, face painting, Lenny the Leadbeater’s Possum -Lake Mountain’s friendly mascot, plus Lenny may even have some great show bags and giveaways for the kids. The resort will have their world class snow making systems working hard to ensure there is plenty of snow for everyone over the weekend.

Bar and Bistro will be open serving great food as always and hot drinks to warm up after your toboggan races – be sure to visit this building if you haven’t already, amazing views over the mountain towards the Yarra Valley and the perfect venue for your next big event!

Race report from the Murrindindi Bike Club

The 2012 Granite Grind has come and gone and I reckon the best yet. The trail was in almost perfect shape, probably the only weekend of the year that there is dust at Lake Mountain but a small price to pay for perfect weather and good grip.
A pretty fast start (as usual) as racers jockeyed for position on the road before heading up the climb on the access trail, this sorted things out a little with the real contenders getting away from traffic, while the rest of us tried not to get too excited knowing there is still a long race in front of us. The first climb up to the summit was fairly mellow as overtaking is hard but I didn’t hear anyone complaining about the pace being too slow. The ripping descent opened things up a bit on the way down to Snowy Hill and soon people were riding at their own pace. This is a real mountain bike racers course, lots of deceptive climbing that saps your legs, technical riding that rewards a good bike handler, fun descents, but the trail is always demanding of your attention, no time to wonder what might be for dinner. Tough but great fun.
Results for MCC members were mixed, bad luck awards to Chris White, Jason Parker and Daniel Robinson, multiple mechanicals plagued them throughout the race, Daniel in particular was riding strong and would have surely have been top 10. Guts and determination award to Kim Pammer, three laps of a demanding course and 4 hours of racing is very hard, but she hammered to the finish and will be stronger for the effort. Congratulations for podium positions to Bruce Straw, Sandra Paul, Katerina Paul, Mary Hall, Andrew Hall and Kim Pammer. The feud for king of Eildon mountain biking continues with Neil taking this round ahead of Adam, but watch this space.
Thanks to Lake Mountain for putting on a great race, the pointy end of the field gets bigger and faster every year, I am sure this race has a great future.

Guided walks this Autumn

Guided walks will be offered to the public on the first and third Tuesdays of each month during autumn. The dates are March 20 and April 10, 24. Meet at 10.00am at the environmental display in the Bistro and return by 12.00 noon. Bookings are not essential for these walks, but you can book a place by email to sue@lakemountainresort.com.au.

If these dates do not suit you are welcome to organise your own small group and contact sue@lakemountainresort.com.au to arrange a convenient time.

The highest point on Lake Mountain is 1480 metres above sea level. Across the plateau and summit area there are over 30km of walking trails to explore. Whilst the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires burnt most of the trees and surrounding vegetation the signs of re-growth are looking outstanding.

Lake Mountain Music Festival

The weather forecast looks good, and the Show will go on! Rain, hail or shine, the Festival will happen. If the weather turns for the worse, the festival can move indoors. Lake Mountain has a brand new restaurant that can seat up to 700 people. So… NO EXCUSES, see you there on Sunday!

Leadbeater’s Possums sent to Healesville Sanctuary.

Three Leadbeater’s Possums from Lake Mountain have been sent into care at Healesville Sanctuary.

The last three known remaining Leadbeater’s Possums from Lake Mountain have been rescued and safely delivered to Healesville Sanctuary following ongoing concern for their survival.

One female and two young males were located by members of the multi-agency Leadbeater’s Possum Recovery Team last week. This follows a huge effort by volunteers from the Friends of the Leadbeaters group and directed by Parks Victoria who braved weather extremes over the past three winters to feed, monitor and ensure their survival.
